Valletta’s central streets link City Gate, St George’s Square and Upper Barrakka in a compact historic walk; the harbour gardens and waterfront sit down the steep bastions. Use the Barrakka Lift when it suits your route, and check its current hours. The public gardens and outdoor squares are free where open, while the Saluting Battery and palace interiors have separate tickets and schedules. Lower Barrakka and its Siege Bell Memorial may be affected by restoration works, so check access before making that detour.
