Valletta Waterfront promenade

Follow the 275-metre waterfront walk beside the coloured Pinto Stores and Grand Harbour.

What to expect

The Valletta Waterfront is a 275-metre promenade along Grand Harbour at the base of the bastions. The operator identifies the long row of Pinto Stores as 18th-century maritime warehouses designed by Andrea Belli and built in 1752. It is an easy place to pause for the harbour and architecture; the restaurants, shops and indoor attractions along the quay are separate businesses.

The promenade is free to walk. Food, shopping, parking, marina services, ticketed events and indoor venues cost extra or follow their own rules.

Visitor notes

This is a working cruise and commercial waterfront rather than a quiet park. Individual event areas can be ticketed or temporarily reserved, and ship operations may change the feel of the quay. Walking between the upper city and the water involves a steep bastion descent; the Barrakka Lift is a separate paid route, with its own hours and closure notices.
