Triton Fountain and City Gate

What to expect

Triton Square opens the landward approach to Valletta. The fountain, completed in 1959, stands outside the present City Gate, an eight-metre-wide breach designed by Renzo Piano and opened as part of the 2014 entrance project. From the fountain, the pedestrian route leads through the stone gate toward Republic Street; the nearby bus terminus and city traffic make this a busy arrival point, not a secluded piazza.
