Walk the open riverside square beneath the Arco da Rua Augusta, with a wide view toward the Tagus and the Cais das Colunas.
What to expect
Start at the equestrian statue of King José I, then cross the broad arcaded square to Cais das Colunas and the Tagus. The yellow façades mark the former royal palace site rebuilt after the 1755 earthquake; the pedestrian Rua Augusta leads north toward Rossio.
