Piazzale Michelangelo
See Florence's dome, towers and bridges from Giuseppe Poggi's hilltop terrace.
What to expect
Designed by architect Giuseppe Poggi as part of Florence's nineteenth-century avenues, Piazzale Michelangelo was completed in 1875. From the terrace, the Duomo dome, Palazzo Vecchio's tower, Santa Croce and the Arno bridges line up across the historic centre. A bronze copy of Michelangelo's David stands with copies of his other sculptures on the central monument; the originals are in museums.
