Piazza Santa Croce
See the Gothic basilica façade and Dante monument in this broad public square.
What to expect
The square expanded when the Franciscan Basilica of Santa Croce was rebuilt in 1295. Today the open space frames its Gothic façade and the nineteenth-century Dante monument by Enrico Pazzi. The scale is easiest to appreciate from the centre of the piazza; the basilica interior is a separate visit with its own admission and worship schedule.
