See the Neptune Fountain, Palazzo Vecchio and open-air sculptures in Florence's civic square.

What to expect

The square took shape with Palazzo Vecchio in the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries and remains one of Florence's central civic spaces. Its outdoor works include a copy of Michelangelo's David, Giambologna's equestrian Cosimo I and the Loggia dei Lanzi sculptures, including Cellini's Perseus. The originals and the palace interiors are separate museum visits.

Entry and costs

The public square, Neptune Fountain and outdoor Loggia sculptures can be viewed without a ticket. Palazzo Vecchio, the Uffizi, Gucci Garden and other interiors have their own admission and opening rules.

Visitor notes

The square is an active event and ceremony space; temporary layouts can change around public celebrations. Look closely at the close-up photograph: it shows the crowned figure on the Neptune Fountain rather than a wide view of the piazza.
