Yasaka Shrine

A free, 24-hour shrine visit beside Gion; the shrine office and prayer reception keep daytime hours.

What to expect

Yasaka Shrine stands at the eastern end of Shijō Street, between central Kyoto and the Gion/Higashiyama area. Its public precinct is open 24 hours, making it a flexible stop before or after a neighbourhood walk. The shrine office is open 09:00–17:00 and prayer reception 09:00–16:00; festivals and ceremonies can change the feel of the grounds.

Entry and costs

Entry to the general shrine grounds is free. Offerings are voluntary; prayers, amulets, food and festival purchases are separate.

Visitor notes

The shrine’s official visitor page lists 24-hour worship, a 09:00–17:00 shrine office and 09:00–16:00 prayer reception. Walk respectfully, keep the worship path clear, and check notices around festival dates.
