Warsaw Old Town Market Square
Meet the Mermaid in a square rebuilt after the war, at the centre of Warsaw's UNESCO-listed Old Town.
What to expect
The Old Town Market Square is the centre of Warsaw's medieval street plan. Its colourful façades and the Mermaid statue are part of a carefully reconstructed historic centre: UNESCO recognises the post-war rebuilding as an exceptional conservation achievement. From the square, narrow streets lead toward the Barbican and city walls on one side and Castle Square on the other. The square itself is an outdoor public space; the nearby Museum of Warsaw and Royal Castle are separate visits.
