Walk the hilltop park above the Vltava, past historic walls, garden paths and the twin-spired basilica.

What to expect

The settlement on Vyšehrad dates to the mid-10th century. Today its outdoor grounds pair Vltava and Castle views with the neo-Gothic Basilica of Saints Peter and Paul, the national cemetery, St Martin's Rotunda and the old casemates; the gardens also have a playground and cafés.

The outdoor grounds are free to visit. Guided tours, casemates and other indoor visits may require tickets or advance arrangements; the basilica and cemetery have separate visiting rules.

Visitor notes

The outdoor grounds are open to the public year-round, but Prague City Tourism does not give a single daily closing time for the open paths. It describes the complex as wheelchair accessible and its park pavements as suitable for wheelchairs, while warning that some pavements, buildings and tour routes are difficult or inaccessible. A barrier-free approach is listed from Vyšehrad metro station when arriving from the city-centre direction.
