Tokyo Metropolitan Ueno Park

A generous public park connecting Shinobazu Pond, historic temples and some of Tokyo's best-known museums.

What to expect

Walk the main avenue from Ueno Station toward the Tokyo National Museum, then loop south by the cherry trees and Shinobazu Pond. Ueno's outdoor paths give the museums and shrine precincts a leafy setting; each attraction inside the park has its own entry rules.

The park itself is free to enter. Museums, Ueno Zoo, boat hire, food and other facilities may charge admission or have separate opening days.

Visitor notes

The Tokyo tourism guide lists park hours as 05:00–23:00. It notes that many museums and facilities keep different hours and are commonly closed on Mondays; check each venue's own schedule, especially during public holidays and blossom-season events.
