Trafalgar Square
A free civic square with Nelson’s Column, fountains and changing public art; demonstrations and events sometimes reshape the space.
What to expect
Trafalgar Square is a public gathering place at the edge of the West End, with Nelson’s Column, fountains, bronze lions and a rotating commission on the Fourth Plinth. The north terrace connects the square to the National Gallery, whose permanent collection is separately free to enter. Rallies and programmed events are a regular part of the square’s use, so the layout can change on the day.
