Take in the illuminated crossroads, theatres and broad pedestrian plazas at the centre of Midtown.

What to expect

The public plazas give you room to stop and take in the billboards without buying a theatre ticket. The Times Square Alliance reports the busiest pedestrian periods are usually noon–14:00 and 16:00–19:00 on weekdays; an early visit is calmer.

Use marked crossings and keep to the curb-cut plazas if you need a step-free route. Crowds are thickest around midday, evening shows and holidays. Costumed characters and street sellers are independent; agree any photo tip before taking a picture.
