The Company's Garden

A historic public garden framed by museums, Parliament and the old city centre.

What to expect

Walk beneath mature trees and past water features in a garden first planted in 1652 to supply ships of the Dutch East India Company. The public grounds sit beside Parliament, the Iziko museums, the National Library and St George's Cathedral, making an easy cultural-centre pause.

Walking in the public garden does not require a permit. The restaurant, museums and neighbouring landmarks are separate places and may charge for entry or services.

The City lists hours of 07:00–19:00 from September through March and 07:00–18:00 from April through August. Walking in the garden does not require a permit; check current notices before visiting.
