Tahrir Square

What to expect

Cairo Governorate lists several major roads branching from Tahrir and landmarks around its perimeter, including the Egyptian Museum, Omar Makram Mosque and Qasr El-Nil Bridge. That makes the square a useful downtown reference point. Treat it as a busy road junction: take in the surrounding architecture from the public edge rather than assuming the traffic circle is a pedestrian plaza.
