What to expect

Stradun, also called Placa, is the Old Town’s broad central promenade between Pile Gate and Luža. Dubrovnik’s Tourist Board describes it as the city’s main open-air public space, used for everyday walks, gatherings and processions. At the western end, look for the Large Onofrio Fountain; at the eastern end, Luža and the bell tower open toward the Old Port. The street itself is a free visit, while nearby museums, church interiors, shops and the walk on top of the city walls have separate access rules or charges. This is a living residential centre as well as a landmark, so follow event notices and keep doorways and service routes clear.
