State Library Victoria combines working reading rooms with galleries and the domed La Trobe Reading Room. Its public spaces are free to enter, so visitors can see the interior without joining a tour or borrowing books.

General public entry is free. Workshops and special events may require separate tickets or booking.

Visitor notes

The library currently lists public hours as 10:00–18:00 daily, closed on New Year’s Day, Good Friday, Christmas Day and Boxing Day. The Dome’s upper levels and one street entrance are temporarily closed at the time of review; gallery spaces generally close at 17:00. Check the live closure notice before travelling.
