Spaccanapoli historic street walk

A free walk along the historic street corridor that cuts across central Naples.

What to expect

Spaccanapoli is the popular name for the lower decumanus, the long east–west corridor through the historic centre rather than one street with the same name along its whole length. A walk can take in Piazza del Gesù Nuovo and Santa Chiara, then continue toward San Gregorio Armeno and the surrounding lanes. The route sits within Naples' UNESCO-listed historic centre; churches, cloisters, underground sites and other interiors are separate visits.

Walking the public streets is free. Church interiors, cloisters, museums and underground attractions along the route may charge admission or have separate service hours.

Visitor notes

Expect uneven historic paving, narrow crowded sections, scooters and active loading traffic. This is a lived-in neighbourhood as well as a visitor route; keep entrances clear and check each church or attraction's own access information.
