São Bento Station hall
Look up at the station clock and twenty thousand azulejos in São Bento's busy railway concourse.
What to expect
São Bento was built in the early 20th century on the site of the former São Bento de Avé-Maria convent. Its glass-and-iron roof and main hall are still part of an active railway station; the feature most visitors come to see is the set of roughly 20,000 azulejos by Jorge Colaço, depicting transport and scenes from Portuguese history. The photo shows the clock and tiled arch above the platform entrance.
