Royal Route walk

A long historic route links Castle Square, Krakowskie Przedmieście, Nowy Świat and royal gardens farther south.

What to expect

Warsaw's Royal Route links royal residences through the city centre. The central walking section runs from Castle Square along Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat, past the Presidential Palace, University of Warsaw and landmark churches; farther south, Aleje Ujazdowskie leads toward Łazienki. The route is a chain of public streets and squares, not a ticketed attraction, so it is easy to shorten and resume by transit.

Walking the public streets and viewing buildings from outside are free. The Royal Castle, church interiors, museums, concerts, food and onward transport have separate costs or access rules.

Visitor notes

The official route is a city-wide itinerary that continues from central Warsaw to Łazienki and Wilanów, so it is not just a short central walk. For a shorter outing, explore Castle Square through Krakowskie Przedmieście and Nowy Świat, then use public transport for the southern legs. State ceremonies and city events can close streets or alter access; check notices before setting off.
