Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria says Melbourne Gardens covers 38 hectares and displays more than 52,000 plants. The lakeside paths and open lawns make this a substantial half-day walk rather than a quick stop.

Entry and costs

Entry to Melbourne Gardens is free on ordinary days. Special ticketed events, tours, food, the Explorer bus and punt rides are separate.

Visitor notes

The official schedule is seasonal: 07:30–19:30 from October through March and 07:30–17:30 from April through September. The separate Ian Potter Children’s Garden has its own weekly and school-holiday calendar. Bicycles and e-scooters are not allowed inside the gardens.
