Plaza de Bolívar
Take in Bogotá’s civic centre, ringed by the cathedral, Capitol, Liévano Palace and Palace of Justice.
What to expect
The former Plaza Mayor has been Bogotá’s civic centre for centuries. The district’s heritage account dates the first layout to about 1539 and traces the present civic plaza to a 1960 redesign; the surrounding cathedral group, Capitol and Liévano Palace each reflect a different period. It is a working public square for ceremonies, cultural events and demonstrations, not a ticketed attraction. The interiors around it have separate entry rules.
