Place Masséna and Promenade du Paillon

See Place Masséna’s red façades and checkerboard paving, then walk the planted Paillon corridor toward the sea.

What to expect

Place Masséna links Old Nice, Avenue Jean Médecin and the Promenade des Anglais. Its red façades and black-and-white paving frame the Sun Fountain and Apollo statue. Continue into the 12-hectare Promenade du Paillon, where the City of Nice describes plantings from several world regions, a large water mirror and a brumisation area. The water features can be switched off, so the walk is worthwhile even when they are not running.

Entry and costs

The square and public park are free to visit. Shops, cafés and nearby museums are separate costs; events and maintenance can temporarily alter access or turn off the water features.

Visitor notes

The City of Nice lists Promenade du Paillon daily from 07:00–21:00 in winter (1 October–31 March) and 07:00–23:00 in summer (1 April–30 September). Place Masséna itself is listed open year-round; the schedule here is for the park portion. The City does not publish accessibility details for the Paillon paths.
