What to expect

Pile Gate is the main western approach to Dubrovnik’s walled Old Town. The bridge, gate and surrounding public streets can be explored without buying a city-wall ticket; a full circuit on top of the walls is a separate paid visit. The official heritage operator says the walls are open every day except Christmas Day, with different seasonal hours published for each site and the listed closing time serving as the last entry. Its visitor FAQ also warns that the historic sites are difficult to access for disabled and older visitors. From the exterior path, look for the moat, stone bridge and layered gate entrance, then continue into the Old Town on foot.
