Philosopher’s Path
A calm canal walk between Ginkaku-ji and Nyakuoji Bridge, with cherry trees and small temple lanes nearby.
What to expect
The Philosopher’s Path follows a canal at the foot of Kyoto’s eastern mountains, between the Ginkaku-ji area and Nyakuoji Bridge. Its short bridges, tree-lined banks and side lanes make it a slower way to move between neighbourhoods. The route is especially busy during cherry-blossom season; temples beside the path, including Ginkaku-ji, charge separate admission.
