What to expect

The National Gallery pairs the West Building’s art from the 11th to early 20th centuries with modern and contemporary works in the East Building. An underground concourse connects the two, and the Sculpture Garden adds an outdoor stop along Constitution Avenue. Admission to the collection, exhibitions and most public programs is free; some events need advance registration.

Entry and costs

Admission to the West and East Buildings, Sculpture Garden and special exhibitions is free. Some events require free registration; cafés, shops and transport are separate purchases.

Visitor notes

The Gallery buildings are open daily 10:00–17:00 and close on 25 December and 1 January. Its current visitor page says the West Building’s 7th Street entrance is closed until further notice; the Mall entrance and 4th- and 6th-Street entrances are listed as alternatives, including accessible entrances. The Sculpture Garden has its own seasonal hours, so check its page if that is your main stop.
