What to expect

Museumplein is the open civic space between Amsterdam’s major cultural buildings, with broad lawns used for sitting, informal sport and public events. The Rijksmuseum gardens also host a free outdoor sculpture exhibition in summer. For winter 2026–27, the city visitor guide advertises an ice rink on the square from 24 October 2026 through 16 January 2027; the rink requires a paid ticket and its dates can change. The surrounding museums have separate admission and hours.
