What to expect

The Plaça del Mercat has hosted trade since medieval times; the present iron-and-glass Mercat Central opened in 1928. A free visit is a walk through an active food market, with produce counters beneath domes and sloping tiled roofs. Buying food is optional, and the nearby outdoor Monday market is separate from the hall.

Entry to the public market hall is free during trading hours. Purchases from stalls are optional; the Monday open-air market nearby is a separate event.

Visitor notes

València City Council currently lists the hall Monday to Saturday, 07:30–15:00. It also documents four ramped adapted entrances, five lifts and an accessible route inside the two-storey building. Check the operator's notice for public-holiday or maintenance changes before visiting.
