What to expect

Maximilianstraße begins beside the Residenz and runs east across the Isar toward the Maximilianeum, the seat of Bavaria's state parliament. King Maximilian II commissioned the 19th-century boulevard in a style blending Neo-Gothic and Renaissance elements. The walk passes the Kammerspiele and other landmark façades; it is worth doing for the street itself even if the luxury shops are not on your itinerary.
