Lincoln Memorial

See Lincoln’s marble chamber and the Reflecting Pool; the memorial grounds stay open around the clock.

What to expect

The Lincoln Memorial anchors the western end of the Mall. Its main chamber holds the seated statue and the words of the Gettysburg Address and Second Inaugural Address; the steps look east toward the Reflecting Pool and Capitol. The free chamber and outdoor memorial are distinct from the lower-level undercroft exhibits, which now use timed entry.

Before you go

Entry and costs

The outdoor memorial and main chamber are free. A timed ticket is required for the lower-level undercroft museum experience; the elevator, restrooms and visitor services have their own operating hours. Parking near the memorial is limited.

Visitor notes

The memorial grounds are open 24 hours, but NPS says the elevator, museum and restrooms close in the evening. An elevator beside the front steps serves the chamber; the undercroft route requires a timed ticket and security screening. NPS lists accessible parking and restrooms nearby, but accessible spaces are limited. Check current construction, access and event notices before travelling.
