What to expect

Cairo Governorate places Khan el-Khalili in Al-Hussein, parallel to Al-Muizz Street, and describes a market more than 600 years old. Its shops sell crafts, metalwork, jewellery and souvenirs. This is an active trading quarter rather than a museum exhibit: browse the public lanes, but expect to pay for purchases, food, guided visits and any ticketed interiors.
