Jordaan neighbourhood walk
Take a quiet walk through the Jordaan’s small bridges, canals and residential lanes; enter courtyards only when invited.
What to expect
The Jordaan is a residential neighbourhood built during Amsterdam’s 17th-century expansion, with narrow streets and canals branching off the main canal ring. Walk at street level to see the area’s older façades, local shops and bridges; the district is better explored slowly than as a checklist of photo stops. Some courtyards (hofjes) are private or open only at posted times, so treat gates and resident spaces as private unless a public entrance is clearly marked.
