Jackson Square
See the 2.5-acre Place d’Armes, Andrew Jackson statue and St. Louis Cathedral at the heart of the French Quarter.
What to expect
Bounded by Chartres, St. Ann, Decatur and St. Peter Streets, Jackson Square is the French Quarter’s central public plaza and a National Historic Landmark. The city describes it as a 2.5-acre park overlooking the Mississippi; the statue, Cathedral and Pontalba Buildings make a compact architectural stop. Street artists, musicians and readers set up around the square, while the Cabildo and Presbytère across Chartres Street are separate Louisiana State Museum sites.
