India Gate and Kartavya Path

Walk up the ceremonial avenue to the 42-metre war memorial, with lawns and fountains along the public approach.

What to expect

India Gate is a 42-metre war memorial at the eastern end of the ceremonial avenue now called Kartavya Path. Delhi Tourism highlights the surrounding lawns and fountains as part of the visit, so allow time for the open approach as well as the arch itself. It is a broad, exposed walk with little shade; the public setting and memorial are free to visit.

Delhi Tourism lists free entry to the public India Gate area. Food, transport, paid activities and access to separate government buildings are not included.

Visitor notes

Delhi Tourism’s current visitor page lists the area as open daily, 24 hours, but says some areas are inaccessible after dark. It names Central Secretariat as the nearest Metro station. Use the public paths and check local notices if a ceremony or event is underway.
