Heroes' Square
Budapest’s 1896 anniversary square, centred on a 36-metre column and the Millennium Monument.
What to expect
Heroes’ Square marks the end of Andrássy Avenue and the entrance to City Park. Its central column rises 36 metres to a statue of Archangel Gabriel; the colonnades and statue groups commemorate figures from Hungarian history. The square took shape for the 1896 millennium celebrations, with the full sculptural composition completed in 1929. The monument and Andrássy Avenue form part of the UNESCO-listed ensemble.
