Grand-Place
A UNESCO-listed market square, rebuilt after 1695 and framed by the Town Hall and ornate guildhalls.
What to expect
Brussels' historic market square has served as a civic centre since the 12th century. French bombardment in 1695 destroyed most of the surrounding buildings; the guilds rebuilt their houses, creating the richly decorated façades around today's square. The Gothic Town Hall remains the dominant landmark, and the whole ensemble has been on UNESCO's World Heritage List since 1998.
