Golden Gate Park

Walk past the Dutch Windmill and flower beds, or take JFK Promenade through San Francisco's 1,017-acre park.

What to expect

Golden Gate Park stretches from the Panhandle to Ocean Beach. This stop highlights Queen Wilhelmina Garden and the Dutch Windmill at the western end; lakes, museums and other gardens lie farther east. Use the City’s access map to choose a shorter route.

Entry and costs

The public park is free to enter. Museums, garden attractions and the carousel charge separately; some have designated free-entry hours. Food, rentals and boat hire are extra.

Visitor notes

San Francisco Park Code lists general park hours as 05:00–midnight daily, though departments may set exceptions. The park is large, so choose a section before setting out. The Japanese Tea Garden opens daily at 09:00; its operator lists free admission on Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 09:00–10:00, with different closing times by season.
