What to expect

Giudecca is a long island south of the historic centre, with waterfront paths and neighbourhood stops spread along the canal. It is not a quick extension of a San Marco walk: visitors normally cross by vaporetto, and the route depends on current service and stop patterns. The quay gives open views back across the canal, but the walk is not a continuous promenade with uniform surfaces; expect bridges, uneven paving and sections with little shade. Check the return boat as well as the outbound trip before setting off.
