What to expect

The Konzerthaus and twin domed churches frame one of Berlin's historic squares. Gendarmenmarkt reopened in March 2025 after a two-year renewal that replaced paving, added rainwater infrastructure and made the public route barrier-free. The square works well as a short stop between Unter den Linden and Checkpoint Charlie.

The public square and exterior views are free. Cathedral exhibitions, tower visits, concerts and special events may charge separately.

Visitor notes

The open square is free to cross and explore. Events, seasonal markets and construction or setup work can temporarily change access. The German and French Cathedrals and the Konzerthaus are separate venues; check their current visitor information before planning an interior visit.
