What to expect

The Gateway of India was built to mark King George V and Queen Mary’s 1911 visit; the 26-metre Indo-Saracenic arch was completed in 1924. The outdoor plaza is a busy harbour-side meeting point and a starting place for boat trips to Elephanta. The current city and national visitor pages describe the monument and its access but do not give a current admission price; a government itinerary mentions a nominal fee. This page therefore does not promise that entry is free.
