Galleria Umberto I public arcade
A free covered passage beneath a landmark iron-and-glass dome.
What to expect
Built between 1887 and 1890, Galleria Umberto I has four arms meeting beneath a high glass-and-iron dome. From the centre, look down at the zodiac signs and wind rose in the floor mosaics, then follow one of the passages toward Via Toledo, Piazza Trieste e Trento or the San Carlo theatre. The arcade itself is a public passage; its shops and cafés are businesses with separate prices.
