What to expect

Fushimi Inari Taisha’s shrine precinct opens onto paths that climb Mount Inari, with rows of donated torii and smaller worship sites along the route. You can visit the lower shrine area or continue uphill; this is a real mountain walk with steep steps, so allow time, wear suitable shoes and turn back when you have had enough. Nearby shops and food are optional extras.
