El Retiro Park

A 125-hectare city park with the Great Pond, formal gardens and long tree-lined paths.

What to expect

Start by the Great Pond, then follow the park's broad avenues toward the French Parterre, rose garden and Cecilio Rodríguez gardens. El Retiro is a 125-hectare green space beside Madrid's museum district; the Crystal Palace, usually a landmark stop, is currently closed for restoration.

Entry and costs

Entry to the park is free. Optional Great Pond rowboat rental costs €6 per boat Monday–Friday (except public holidays) or €8 on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. Each 45-minute rental is for up to four people.

Visitor notes
