What to expect

The Eisbach surfaces beside Haus der Kunst at the south end of the English Garden, where a low stone step can form a standing wave. The bridge is the familiar viewing point, but the current is strong and the channel is shallow. The City of Munich's order permits experienced river surfers only when a surfable wave forms; its visitor guide currently carries a notice that surfing is not possible, so check the latest municipal notice before travelling to see surfers.
