East Side Gallery

A long open-air gallery of murals on a preserved stretch of the Berlin Wall.

What to expect

Walk 1.3 kilometres beside the longest remaining stretch of the Berlin Wall, where 118 artists from 21 countries painted the open-air gallery after the border fell. Dmitri Vrubel's mural of Brezhnev and Honecker is one of the best-known works; the whole route also stands as a memorial to the former border.

Entry and costs

The outdoor gallery is free and open to the public. Guided tours and workshops organized by the Berlin Wall Foundation are paid and require separate booking.

Visitor notes

The wall is open around the clock. The Foundation's visitor information centre at Mühlenstraße 73 is open 10:00–17:00; from November it is closed Fridays, and it is closed 24 December 2026–2 January 2027. The 1.3-km route is wheelchair-accessible; riverside green paths are accessible only on their upper paths, not at the bank.
