Dragon’s Back trail

Take a popular ridge walk with sea and island views above the southeastern coastline of Hong Kong Island.

What to expect

Hong Kong Trail Section 8 climbs from the To Tei Wan bus stop toward the Dragon’s Back ridge and Shek O Peak, then follows a shaded path around Mount Collinson to Tai Tam Gap. AFCD estimates about 2.5 hours for the hike; views open over Tai Tam Bay, Shek O Wan and the southern islands.

The country-park trail is free to walk. Bus or minibus fares, food and any onward transport are separate.

Visitor notes

AFCD says the hike suits people with hiking experience and adequate fitness. The ridge is exposed to sun and wind, and wet ground can slow the walk. Check official weather and trail notices, carry water, keep to maintained paths and avoid thunderstorms or severe weather. Citybus 9 and the Shau Kei Wan–Shek O minibus serve the route.
