What to expect

Dam Square grew around the original Amstel river dam and remains a civic gathering place in the historic centre. The Royal Palace, Nieuwe Kerk and National Monument face the square, so the public walk combines royal architecture, church history and a national memorial. The square itself is open public space; entering any of the surrounding buildings is a separate visit with its own admission and schedule.
