Costanera Sur Ecological Reserve

Walk or cycle past lagoons, marshes and riverside vegetation in a 350-hectare reserve beside Puerto Madero.

What to expect

Costanera Sur is a 350-hectare protected landscape between Puerto Madero and the Río de la Plata. Lagoons, marshes, alder groves and tall pampas grass give the reserve a very different feel from the nearby office towers, and the city lists walking and cycling among the ways to visit. It is a good choice for birdwatching or a longer outdoor break, though some paths have little shade.

Entry and costs

Entry to the ecological reserve is free. Guided walks are offered on some weekends and public holidays; food, bicycle hire and transport are separate costs.

Visitor notes

Open Tuesday–Sunday, with seasonal hours: 08:00–19:00 from November through March and 08:00–18:00 from April through October. The city also lists public-holiday access, so a Monday holiday may differ from the regular schedule shown here. Gates close 30 minutes before the listed closing time. Strong rain, wind or weather alerts can close the reserve; stay on signed paths and do not enter the river.
