Charles Bridge

Cross the 14th-century Vltava bridge beneath its statue-lined parapets, between Old Town and Malá Strana.

What to expect

Work began in 1357 and the bridge was completed in 1402. The 515-metre crossing links Old Town with Malá Strana, with 30 sculptures and sculptural groups along its parapets and Gothic towers at either end.

Entry and costs

Walking across the bridge is free. Climbing the Old Town or Lesser Town bridge towers, guided tours, food and other purchases cost extra.

Visitor notes

The bridge surface is cobbled and often crowded. Prague City Tourism notes that historic paving and the busy Old Town exit can make this route difficult for some visitors with mobility needs; plan the approach and return route in advance. Temporary events or maintenance can change access.
