What to expect

Chandni Chowk runs through Shahjahanabad, the 17th-century city built under Mughal emperor Shah Jahan. Its market street is still a working part of Old Delhi: Delhi Tourism points visitors to Paranthe Wali Gali and Nai Sarak for food and shops, while nearby metro stops link the area with the Red Fort and other historic sites. Come for the street life and architecture, not a quiet, traffic-free promenade.

The public streets are free to walk. Food, shopping, rickshaws, guided tours and separately ticketed monuments or interiors cost extra.

Visitor notes

Delhi Tourism lists market hours as 10:30–21:00 and notes that some outlets close Sunday; those are trading hours, not a promise that every shop is open. The main street has pedestrianized sections, but junctions and surrounding roads remain busy. Chandni Chowk station is on the Yellow Line.
